One of our #EmpowerPeople went to the Brazilian Amazon and with the New Hope tribe she picked, removed the berry from it’s branch, cooked and made a juice out of it, here are some pictures/videos she sent us. “In the tribe, they made a day out of it, the kids help the elderly by removing the berry from the branch and then after they juice it they serve everyone a little bowl and they can add tops if they want it with sugar, tapioca, cassava flour and more.” - @karinebr7 . . We were ECSTATIC at the results of @harvest_hero Enhanced Perlite Mix. We used their soil media mix to plant lettuce and spinach seeds. Not only did the mix yield better results🥬 by giving our seeds the nutrients and minerals it needed, the coating formula used in the mix kept our volunteers from breathing in any excessive dust (silica)! 💨 Silica supports healthy growth for our crops (increased nutrient uptake, plant strength, resistance to pests, etc) but it can cause respiratory problems for humans. Having a large amount of silica dust in the air when making our planting medium was something we thought we just had to live with. Yielding better crop results and keeping our volunteers safe?? Life is a cycle and it’s the same in sustainable farming. As plants grow they take nutrients from the soil and in turn they produce fruit. However, as they near the end of their growing cycle they continue taking nutrients but stop producing fruit. But in sustainable farming nothing is without purpose. These barren plants are reburied underneath the soil to give vital nutrition to the next crop. Imagine if we judged plants for what they looked like when they were first being planted, “Ah that thing can’t help anyone, it’s so small!” We’d wonder why we bothered planting them at all! But we don’t do that. We understand that with time and proper care those little plants will grow up to feed many people. We don’t judge the plant based on what it looks like in the moment, but we remember the harvest that’s coming. Maybe we should remember that next time we look in the mirror, or the next time we want to give up on somebody else. You might be wondering where the harvest is but may be you’re still growing. You might wonder what’s wrong with that person but maybe all they need is a little attention. Don’t give up.

Some places naturally have rich soil, in Uganda you could drop a seed on the ground and it would grow. It’s not so here in Florida, here, because the ground is so sandy, we have to amend our soil with nutrients and fertilizer. And then like in Uganda, we too can have a bountiful harvest. The Bible talks about the heart of man as soil and the Word of God as a seed. Some seeds fall among the rocks, some the wayside, others the thorns.
